Queensland funding expands Sigma’s workplace Aeroskills training

Skills Assure Supplier approval gives eligible Queensland apprentices, trainees and employers another option for supported workplace training, with a focus on building the state’s aviation workforce.

QUEENSLAND, June 2026 — Sigma Aerospace College Pty Ltd (RTO 40713), part of Sigma Aerospace Group, has been approved as a Skills Assure Supplier to deliver Queensland Government-subsidised training in its approved apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications. The approval gives eligible Queensland learners and their employers another option for supported Aeroskills training built around the workplace.

The College’s goal is to turn training investment into capability for the Queensland economy: people who can maintain aircraft safely, support local operators and build long-term careers close to the communities that need them.

“Queensland needs capable people who can keep aircraft flying safely. We want to turn this investment into practical capability: train people where the work is, support their supervisors and help operators build the workforce they need.”

Mat Wheatley · Managing Director, Sigma Aerospace Group

Capability where Queensland needs it

Regional charter, agricultural aviation, tourism, emergency services and larger maintenance operations all depend on a capable engineering workforce. For an operator outside a major centre, building that workforce means having a training provider prepared to work with the aircraft, people and supervision on site.

Sigma’s workplace model combines structured learning, regular trainer contact, planned workplace visits and practical assessment. Apprentices and trainees can connect what they study with supervised maintenance tasks, while employers receive progress updates and help identifying gaps in task exposure or evidence.

Training still needs protected time and proper supervision. The model avoids mandatory recurring block release away from work; any training or assessment that cannot be completed at the employer’s site is identified and planned with the operator.

What the funding can support

Funding is available only for eligible learners in qualifications and pathways within Sigma’s approved scope. The Career Boost Program 2025–28 supports approved Certificate IV apprenticeship and Diploma traineeship offerings. The Career Start Program 2025–28 includes Sigma’s approved Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance traineeship offering. Separate approved school-based arrangements apply to that Certificate II.

A student co-contribution normally applies unless an approved exemption applies. An employment and training contract, suitable workplace arrangements and an eligibility assessment are required. Funding does not automatically cover every course, every learner or optional CASA licensing costs.

Employers can explore Certificate IV trade training, Diploma pathways and Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance, then speak to Sigma about the appropriate outcome and funded pathway. Qualification training and CASA licence issue are separate processes.

A practical next step for employers

Tell the College where you operate, the aircraft or components your team maintains, and whether you are taking on new starters or supporting existing employees. Sigma will review the proposed qualification, supervision, workplace resources, eligibility and fees before enrolment.

The focus is a workforce with the skills to do the work. Sigma brings that approach from within an engineering group that maintains aircraft, overhauls engines and components, and supports aviation employers.

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships

Under Program Schedule 2 — School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs), Sigma’s approved school-based offering is MEA20518 Certificate II in Aircraft Line Maintenance, through an eligible registered school-based traineeship. The four elective focuses above each have a $0 student co-contribution for an approved SAT enrolment and a 24-month nominal duration. This does not make Sigma’s Certificate IV or Diploma offerings available as funded school-based training. Queensland Government VET in Schools information.

Before enrolment

Sigma checks the learner’s program entitlement and eligibility, registered training contract, employer resources and supervision, qualification and unit selection, and previous credit. The College then confirms the payable fees and training arrangements in writing and supplies access to the funded application. Employers must provide suitable work, qualified supervision, safe facilities, current maintenance data and time for learning and assessment. Additional arrangements are needed where a workplace cannot provide the required task exposure.
